Let’s take it there: Periods.

Let’s face it ladies, periods suck. They are so inconvenient and painful. They just make life really annoying. I honestly don’t understand why we have them. Since we all have to deal with them I’d like to tell you how I deal with mine and what I’ve done to make a little bit easier for myself. But first I’d like to tell you a quick little backstory: When I was a teenager my period was HORRIBLE. I used to pass out, turn purple, have cramps that were horrendous, throw up and feel like absolute shit. This only got worse when I was drinking alcohol. I also was drinking soda back then too so that didn’t help. I also didn’t realize I was lactose intolerant so that made it even worse. I couldn’t go maybe an hour or two without having to change. It was horrendous. Cut to now. I’m almost 13 years sober and my periods still suck. But honestly? they’re a hell of a lot better than they used to be. I no longer throw up, turn purple, pass out or have horrendous cramps. If I do have cramps its only on days 1-3 and it’s nothing that a heating pad couldn’t fix.

So how do I deal with them now? I do the following things-

Days 1-3: I eat very simple foods, Nothing fried or anything like that. I just eat eggs, green juices, salads, chicken. Just simple things. Nothing spicy or anything that could irritate my stomach. I also put a heating pad on my stomach while I sit and do computer work. (I’m doing that right now) I also drink some herbal tea and maybe I’ll have some soup on the first day. I also drink LOTS of water and I put propel in it to help replace lost salt. Especially in the summer time when it’s unbearably hot down here.

Days4-5 I still eat simple. But I don’t need the heating pad anymore. I put that away for next month. I still drink tons of water. I also start to become a little more active. Days 1-3 I don’t have much energy.

That’s about it. I hope this helps!
